PVC pipe fittings are the pipe of choice for trenchless water infrastructure projects. So what are its advantages?
A. Water quality
PVC will not produce odors to the water transported. PVC is not a source of metal pipes or other chemical pollutants, and will not react with corrosive water. The PVC inner wall is smooth and the non-biodegradable inner wall surface makes it more resistant to biofilm accumulation.
B. Corrosion resistance / durability
PVC is inherently well-suited for embedded applications and will not cause corrosion inside or outside. No protective measures are required.
Unlike other products that require protective sleeves or coatings, the long-term durability of PVC pipes will not be affected by minor surface damage. The corrosion resistance of PVC is not easy to deteriorate due to the low resistivity drilling mud commonly used in horizontal directional drilling and other trenchless construction methods.
Durable piping materials for walls and coatings simplify system design and installation. For sewers, PVC pipes are resistant to all chemicals in domestic and industrial wastewater. PVC is not affected by stray currents and does not require cathodic protection.
C. Strength
After installation, PVC pipes can withstand external loads of floor coverings over 30m, internal pressure ratings up to 25 bar, and pipe rigidities up to 145,000N / m / m. PVC pipes can also be bent without breaking, and are very suitable for handling ground movements caused by instability, soil movement, and earthquakes.
PVC pipes are stiffer (higher modulus of elasticity) than other thermoplastic pipes. It provides greater ability to maintain slope and is less prone to undulation and sagging.
A large number of experiments and actual data prove the long-term stable internal flow characteristics of PVC. For PVC pressure systems, the typical roughness and coefficient k is 0.01. This is equivalent to reducing the cost of pumping and maintenance over the service life.
Since the 1950s, PVC has been used as the main material for water supply and sewers, and it has a longer life than ductile iron and polyethylene. Many papers have been published on the long-term performance of PVC pipes.
Watertight joint
The PVC pipes used in water distribution applications are designed with gasket joints. These reinforced gaskets form a permanent seal. The PVC pipe connected with properly installed gaskets can achieve zero leakage. Fusible PVC pipe joints can prevent leakage to the greatest extent.
A small amount of water to treat can greatly reduce operating costs. Watertight joints also reduce the possibility of buried soil being washed away, potentially weakening the strength of the pipeline.
